On the afternoon of 28th, Oct., 2021, Prof. Zhang Hongbo from Department of Pharmacy, Åbo Academic University, Finland was invited to Institute for Advanced Materials to participate in the "Weiqiaojia-Youth Academic Salon" and gave an academic lecture. Relevant faculties and students joined in the lecture.
The lecture was held by Prof. Liu Lei, the Dean of Institute for Advanced Materials. Prof. Zhang gave a report entitled Advanced Functional Materials and Their Medicine Applications. Prof. Zhang introduced a series of advanced functional materials towards the treatment of different diseases. Prof. Zhang and his group focus on the design and construction of various advanced functional materials to address clinical and biological problems. His team members are graduated from medicine, biology, chemistry, materials science, physic, and Engineering, etc. They hope to solve practical problems through interdisciplinary research and promote the industrialization and/or clinical applications of advanced functional materials. After the report, Prof. Zhang had a lively discussion with everyone on the Internet and put forward valuable suggestions for their research work.
Dr. Zhang Hongbo is currently a tenured associate professor in the Department of Pharmacy, Åbo Academic University, Finland, and a Research Fellow of the Finnish Academy of Sciences. He studied under Professor David A. Weitz, a foreign academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and an academician of American Academy of Sciences, Academy of Engineering and College of Arts and Sciences. A series of innovative achievements have been made in the fields of microfluidics and nano-medicine, nano-targeting, nano-diagnosis and bio-pharmacy. He has rich interdisciplinary research background (biopharmaceuticals, cell and molecular biology, chemistry, physics and engineering), and has mastered international level knowledge of microfluidics, nanomedicine, diagnosis and biopharmaceuticals. In September 2016, he became an assistant professor at Åbo Academic University in Finland (entered the 7-year tenure evaluation system), and established his own research group, and became a tenure associate professor in November 2018. Over 120 international papers have been published in advanced materials, nature communication, PNAS, cell report and other magazines, among which 50 articles have an impact factor of 10 or more, with a total impact factor of over 1,200, 4,800 cited by Google and an H index of 42. At the same time, he is Associate Editor of Research, Engineered Regeneration, Smart Materials in Medicine, Editor in Bioactive Materials (IF 14.5) etc and reviewer of Chemical Reviewer, Science Advances, PNAS, Advanced Materials, ACS Nano and many other journals
